Off The Grid unveils the second chapter of its label, this time with two tracks (A1 and B1) from Mataemon, an alter ego of Tolga Fidan, who puts his years of experience into forging two powerful cuts that balance the strengths of the past with the visions of the future, laying driving, deep and playful elements over steady grooves, raving straight from the heart. The A2 cut is the release debut of OG record collector and music enthusiast Matzo Sweetlife, a well kept secret on the outskirts of Brussels, who delivers a no-nonsense track of "machine soul", soft and dark, pure Detroit style. Rounding off the ep, the B2 marks the return of Oni-Ki (aka Onirik and Minoki) to wax after a short hiatus... this time with a solemn groover, confirming their consistently off-kilter approach, tinged with acid-jazz influences and emotional flights.
Argentinian DJ, artist, and label head DJ これからの緊急災害 also known as Wachita China makes his debut on Fides Records with the EP T.A.K.E.O.V.E.R, marking the 16th release for the label. Five energetic tracks showcase Wachita China's scholarly knowledge of influenced Ghetto and Electro Music. With his driven 808 beats, fierce basslines, extraterrestrial vocals with a metallic edge, and a blend of sci-fi melodies, the artist proves once again his ability to create timeless dancefloor weapons. The EP also include an electro-infused upbeat track featuring DJ Disappointed, injecting a energy burst into the release.
Autokinetic’s techno roots reach back to 1993 when Mike McClure and John Golden formed Auto K in Minneapolis, forming the vibrant MPLS rave scene alongside Freddy Fresh, Woody McBride, and DVS1. Auto K then changed their name to Auto Kinetic, and now Mike McClure is ripping hypnotic modular techno in hyperspace solo as Autokinetic. These tracks have been secret weapons in DVS1 sets for the past couple years.
Daif on Colin Chiddle's Art of Dark.
Last Nubian has been making a name for himself over the past year or so with a string of killer releases on labels like Nomada, Flat White and Blaq Numbers, as well as holding down one of the most essential shows on London based online radio station Balamii. His latest EP sees Wright at his strongest yet, with lead single 'Fix Your Mind' getting airtime across BBC Radio 1, Radio 6, NTS & more.'Fix Your Mind', which was made with frequent collaborator Dougan, sees loose yet jagged drums unfold into a flurry of chopped vocals, swirling synths and a calming vocal refrain calling out 'Wake up, it's not too late'. The EP continues with the rolling, UK Funky-tinged 'We The People', driven by a warm, Larry Heard-esque bassline and delightfully spritely keys stabs. On the B-side, 'Sold The World' mellows the mood slightly with low-slung percussion, a meandering lead synth line and a stirring, expertly chopped vocal sample. Now a household name on the on the Parisian club scene, Hugo LX delivers his own 'After Thoughts Mix' of 'Sold The World', bulking up the originals groove with crispy percussion and a rubbery bouncing bassline that rolls through sparkling chords, a infectious synth motif and builds to a graceful ascending synth solo.
