Yonder Kids get a deserved spotlight 20 years after the journey suddenly stopped.A musical legacy which could have been lost in the background noise of time is finally edited, mastered and cut into vinyl.
Saramago debuts on Lisbon’s Carpet & Snares with four slices of deep and groove-laden house. This is an EP of contrasts, the light skip of the A side shadowed by the more driving pulse of the B. Opening with the dubby, weightless house of ‘The Red Room’, Saramago then treats us to a wiggly banger in “Unicorn”, sure to melt today’s dancefloors. ‘Sakaboto’ takes things into darker territory with a focussed acid groove that opens up halfway through with twinkling pads. ‘Happy Endings’ rounds things off with funk and flair, another sure-fire peak-time bumper.
First VA compilation from new Rome-based label Giano Electronics, formed by a group of producers and DJs from the orbiting sub-genres of techno, electro, acid and idm.The record kicks off with “Neuromancer” - a dissonant dystopian electro tune from the Gibson golden age by T/Error, followed by JFrank with the polyrhythmic vortex of “Premedidatio Malorum”; A-side closes with a grinding electro assault entitled “Capacitor Discharge” by Akkaelle. B-Side opens with the nostalgia drenched ambient acid “Cphrigyan acid” by duo Anywave and the whole EP is topped off with the cinematic downtempo electro track “A few thoughts away” by Heinrich Dressel. Mastered by Andrea Merlini.
Asper Bothrops join the Spinning Plates team as new artists to the roster. Nuanced late night club music alongside a deep rework by label regular Andy Rantzen.
Beautiful cinematic electronix on this full length album by Lord Of The Isles inspired by the beauty of the islands of Scotland. Neil McDonald's love of the outdoors is a constant feature in his music, hence his Lord Of The Isles moniker, a direct reference to the Highlands and islands of his native Scotland. His vivid, effervescent and blissfully cinematic sound paints a soundtrack to unmade films, building imaginary worlds inspired by his childhood passion for science fiction. It is therefore no coincidence that the closing track 'Subtle Thoughts' samples the inimitable voice of Carl Sagan and is also the name of his forthcoming album on Lapsus Records. Subtle Thoughts' is an album of sumptuous melancholic electronica that, like all his previous works, avoids being pigeonholed. In it we find ambient and IDM, but also breaks and down-tempo 4x4 beats with deep ruminations, and even passages akin to new age and Balearic. In Neil's own words, the real concept behind 'Subtle Thoughts' is "The spaces in between. Listening to the quiet voices. Freedom of expression and being open. It also contains my hopes and fears for the future of our world, but mainly hope and love".
