Following up after the recent Circadian Rhythms release is Sebastian S under his Caustic 14 alias with a yummy yummy 2x12” six tracker full of speedy bleep science breakbeat and colorful jungle techno compositions that could only be made in BRUXHELL (Brussels). The selection is a patchwork of various unreleased works from around 1993 to 1996. A silent witness of these rave-days said the following about the production process of the tracks on this new Basic Moves release:“We were eager to share our individual sound universes with each other and see where it would take us. These compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek, scrutinising each episode while composing.”
One Instrument Volume 01 is the physical fulfillment of eight sound experiments composed by different producers using the guidelines of the label. The choice of the Various Artists format aims at creating an harmonious journey across different sub-genres in the ambient, techno and experimental worlds, which can perfectly embrace each other. The LP opens with a composition by In Bloom, the new project of Martino Bertola, who drives us directly into a melodic ambience. To follow it is the dense, polyrhythmic experiment by Fabian Kempe’s project ‘Korridor’. Serena Butler’s piece is built around spacey sounds and breezy rhythms.Yhdessa, the newly born Dutch-Italian duo formed by Grand River (Aimée Portioli) and Enrica Falqui, leans towards ambient atmospherics and ominous sonorities with a refined Northern European touch. Yair Elazar Glotman ventures us across his contrabass player skills giving an acoustic touch to the record.Swedish producer, Fjäder (Ida Matsdotter), handles the flip with a moody techno cut filled with evasive analog acutes.Claudio PRC delivers an electroacoustic soundscape created with a tiny, graceful drone machine. The Dutch duo, Wanderwelle, closes the LP with a dreamy and delicate excursion evoking the mysterious sides of nature._________________________________________________Mastered by Giuseppe Tillieci at Enisslab Studio, RomeOriginal artwork by Marco FasoliLayout by Marco Fasoli
Expanding on the blueprint of previous releases, Trieste-born, London-based producer Sohrab is the Kalahari clan’s latest inductee. OYSTER43 is a distillation of the Italian producer’s stylistic scope in its purest form; impeccably crafted dance music with a healthy dose of prog.Running deep with this one. Smartly refined constructions primed for meditative club use, the first four tracks are rendered in pristine detail. From the widescreen and tunnelling to straight-up utopian, there’s a life-affirming vitality like only the most quintessential '90s prog-house can achieve. The record begins to veer into realms of dilated abstraction on the second plate. Where ‘Fleeting Thoughts’ unfurls like a slice of hi-tech IDM undergoing an ayahuasca ceremony, ‘Sunseeker’ and ‘Deconstruct’ keep the ritual going at a lysergic, slo-mo chug. ‘Crystal Clear’, on the other hand, evokes the ‘70s with a bucolic, avant-garde synth lullaby.
The final installment in the planet love trilogy unveils yet another three DAT-retrieved compositions, conceived by Marco Repetto at axodya between 91 & 92.D.o.c. e.p. drips heavily from melancholy. The wayward blend of joyous piano-arrangements, bittersweet pads, bleep, organ, groovy basslines, samples and 909, demonstrates the young producer’s more elate side, and underlines his inordinate ability to diversify. It is with great pleasure that return_backspace resurrects some of Repetto’s most treasured compositions, and presents to the world the unadulterated future sound from the golden age of electronic music.
