Rakya is back with a starry-eyed collection of sounds from Parisian duo Charonne. And most importantly, it’s designed for both the mind and the club.

One year since Rakya’s Liquor Store, one year since our core members Charonne were secretly crafting their comeback in Rakya’s catalogue with the Moonstruck Zine EP.

This release has many faces, crossing styles and tempo: a starry-eyed collection of sounds. And most importantly, it’s designed for both the mind and the club.

Glamorama (A1) is a synth-lead stomper, dancefloor killer, as steady and powerful as this genre can get. It has founded its fine balance between a rather dark first impression and the overtaking feel-good energy of the organs. A reference to Bret Easton Ellis’ schizophrenic society: Glamorama. Which makes a perfect transition towards the glistening bomb of the EP, an uplifting house-music anthem where Charonne encourages you to MakeUrOwnMusic (A2)

B-side, on the other hand, is more intimate. Experimentations in tempos and structures, exploring a dystopian future. The Little People is where Charonne manoeuvre a more ravy side, but always with a sense of melancholy – moving us to the EP’s conclusion, B2, an acidic and mysterious high-speed UFO.

Incoming, another massive EP from Anderson. After his recent easter eggs EP, this four tracker is a blend of trance, breaks, drum & bass and experimental electronica. Starting off the A side with the ‘Jelly Bean (Virus Outbreak Mix)’, this monster of tune will rattle your subs (and brain) with his crunchy kicks and trancey sequencing. This track will blast you off into oblivion eventually bringing you right into A2, ‘Level Quest’, a trancey chugging progressive tune building energy from the moment the first kick ignites. After a much needed break, the B1 puts you in an immediate trancestate lasting just a few minutes and before you know it you will be blasted into drum and bass land with ‘Tasteful Nudes’ closing out the EP. See you on the other side..
The Spinning Plates imprint returns this October with Club Winston’s ‘Guzzle’ EP, comprised of four gritty club workouts from the London artist. The UK’s Club Winston has been steadily unveiling a series of tripped-out club ready cuts via his own UKGEORGE label over the past few years along with remixes from the likes of D.Tiffany and Tim Reaper. Here though we see him join the roster of Spinning Plates with his latest collection of works, an imprint that’s played host to material from the likes of SHKN, Neksha, Andy Rantzen, DJ Spider and Bruno Schmidt since its inception in 2015.Title-track ‘Guzzle’ leads, laid out across five minutes with a menacing arpeggio bass lead, howling atmospherics and crunchy analogue drums. ‘Hell’ follows and tips the focus over to heavy doses of sub bass, intricately dynamic, modulating drums and intense swells of processed synths throughout.Opening the flip-side is ‘Chart’, upping the energy levels with a pacey 4/4 drum groove while twitchy resonant synth lines, low-end pulsations and cavernous reverberations ebb and flow throughout. ‘Partook’ then rounds out the release, a cinematic ambient composition which lays focus on swirling, textural pads, glitched out resonant bleeps and fluttering low end hits.
Weapons of Desire are back with the next instalment of raw percussion and the dirty bass lines that we have all grown to know and love. This time joint label owners Alex Handley and Toni Aslam are at the helm with Auto Sound City - A Collection Of Niceties Raw Jackin' business created from analogue boxes as old as they are. Four tracks that cut through the groove like butter. WOD007 is a milestone as it is the first double sided release. Time to put the needle on the record, nod your head and shuffle your feet to filth of the finest kind.
From 1995 comes Kenny Larkin's staggering long player 'Metaphor'. Larkin's 2nd full length under his own name sees the Detroit firebrand continuing his singular approach to techno and electronic music with this set of futurist leaning jams that still stands head and shoulders above today in 2021. Packed to the brim with soul, emotion and depth 'Metaphor' is the natural successor to 'Azimuth' released only the year before, it's the manifestation of Larkins 'techno soul' agenda laid bare through the fusing motor-city minimalism, driving techno-funk and deep as the ocean ambience and melody to deliver a truly original and awakened collection of timeless tracks. As with his other LPs and projects, this record is a remarkable document and testament to how ahead of the curve Kenny Larkin was / is as a producer and creator. It's quite hard to believe these signals were beamed down to us in the midst of the 1990's. The quality and breadth on display across these discs deftly explains why these records are so coveted and cherished today and why this expanded reissue is such an exciting proposition. File under 'essential Detroit'.'Metaphor' has been legitimately reissued for 2021 on Kenny’s own Art Of Dance imprint. Remastered from DAT tapes (with the exception of 2 tracks) and original sources by Curve Pusher. Designed by Atelier Superplus.
