One EP is the first release of newborn E2-E8 Records out of London. A label to celebrate friendship and put new talents on the map.Out of Luca’s E2-E8 show on Netil Radio came the idea to launch an independent imprint with the same concept: putting good new electronic music into people’s ears, and expose people whose creative voice has hardly been heard so far. The result is a label with a clear plan, with promising talents already lined up to appear on the platform.Fittingly, the first release is a split EP between two friends. On the A side we have “Rising Sun”, from the mind of Netil Radio founder Miro Sundaymusiq. This suspended, emotive number perfectly encompasses Miro’s world, where ambient rooms and rapturous deep trance seamlessly bond together. The Pacifist Techno Version is purely for the mind, while the Non Pacifist Trance Version engages your body and translates the same emotions to the dance floor. The B side is home to two Meditations from the creative flare of Avsluta, one of the most fascinating sound artists recently appearing on London’s scene. With performances at Cafe Oto and collaborations with David Toop already on her back, we are witnessing her charting a groundbreaking path. “Meditation 03” and “Meditation 18” are part of that path – two rich and articulate works that will sit easily in many ambient sets. The Digital Bonus “Meditation 16” sees the artist playing with her voice, in a way that reminds us of Donato Dozzy and Anna Caragnano’s “Sintetizzatrice” from a few years back.Early support for this record comes from Vladimir Ivkovic, who played Meditation 18 as the opening track of one of his Noods Radio shows, and from Jane Fitz who played Rising Sun on her Rinse FM show.
Assemble music welcomes production duo Oni-Ki who deliver three genre-bending cuts flirting with Detroit and rave atmospheres, topped up by a classy remix by Liverpool's very own Reedale Rise.
Back in 2021, when Volodymyr Gnatenko agreed to work on his debut album, none of us could have predicted it would be released, post-pandemic, against the backdrop of war. At the time, the 23-year-old producer from Lutsk was riding high on a string of well-received 12s for labels such as Where We Met and Animals On Psychedelics, besides local Ukraine labels such as LSS557 and Rhythm Buro. He was, between covid closures, playing live at Kyiv clubs such as Closer and Kureni, looking to tour in Europe, and spending every spare second making music. How things change. When missiles began to rain on Kyiv, Gnatenko, alongside a few friends from Closer, hid in his studio. For a while, the bombings did not stop. But for the producer, neither did the music-making. Choosing to stay in the city, he continues to make beats, managing only to mix down between bombing raids. He changed his first name to match that of his president, ditching the previous spelling of his name because it was the same as the aggressor, “the same as my worst enemy, I am ashamed and disgusted that I started my career with it”.The album speaks of softer, easier times. A combination of rich ambience, and laidback breaks alongside loose progressive and trance-fused dancefloor tracks, this debut brings together all the strands that Gnatenko plays with. The process, he says, was exhausting and long. Yet the results are lighter, fresher. Maybe because, he says, “it is dedicated to my future wife. All the tracks are my words of love for her". Deeply hypnotic and freely moving between ideas, it feels like it was made a lifetime ago, not a matter of months. Now, it resonates with a new defiance. It is a debut with an extra layer of meaning.
Completely unorthodox production techniques employed by one of Spain’s maestros from the 80’s, THANKYOU brings back one of Julian Ruiz’s craziest productions that come with a potential threat to any well tuned HiFi system (careful at 1:26 on A side). A remarkable dubby/italo rhythm section sets the foundation for a dreamy melody that won’t be forgotten so easily. Inspired in Indian mythology, “El Genio De Los Pies Rojos” is a masterpiece that will take any tasteful dancefloor to serious heights. Includes 2 other shorter titles from the album originally released in 1986.
